School Writers - Alessandro Fo (30/01)

friday 19 january 2018

Chiaravalle’s theatre next guest, kicking off the “School Writers” festival, will be prof. Alessandro Fo. The event, which will take place on January the 30th at 4.30pm, will be on the kids poetry book “Every raindrop dances the tango”, written by poet Pierluigi Cappello.

“School Writers” is a new festival (created by the Fondazione Chiaravalle Montessori, IC Montessori and Municipality of Chiaravalle) that aims to jump the existing fences between the different worlds of education, forging, through different souls of writing, an alternative vision of the word “school”. The festival will take place in four events during the first months of 2018, each event will have a different guest.

Professor Alessandro Fo will guide us during the first two events, starting things off the upcoming January the 30th with an analysis of the the kids poetry book “Every raindrop dances the tango”, written by poet Pierluigi Cappello.

Cappello was one of the most estimated contemporary Italian poets, winner of the Viareggio poetry prize, prematurely gone last October, being only 50 year-old. “Every raindrop dances the tango” is a collection of poems dedicated to his niece but addressed to all children. It represents an opportunity to understand the use and utility of poetry in school. Borrowing the author’s words on the importance of poetry in our times we’ll say that: “even a child understands that poetry isn’t just toying with words, it has something more inside, it deals with the senses, the imagination and the soul.”

Alessandro Fo, son of theatre impresario and writer Fulvio Fo (brother of literature Nobel prize winner Dario Fo) studies Latin literature, lecturing at the University of Siena. Author, writer and curator of critics over the Latin classics for Einaudi, he writes also over contemporary Italian literature (authors as Vittorio Sereni, Dino Campani e Antonio Pizzuto). As a poet he won the Viareggio prize in 2014 with his collection “Mancanze”.

Soon we’ll release the whole “School Writers” program, with all the events for the upcoming March.

Stay tuned!
